Pain au Chocolat

This sweet treat is perhaps the best way to start the Parisian day. You’ll find bakeries across the city and they’ll all be proud to sell their pain au chocolat – a buttery croissant filled with, yup, you guessed it, chocolate! Also in the mix is a little bit of coffee syrup and a hint of nut, making for a delicious breakfast snack.

Croque Monsieur

If you thought the chocolatey breakfast was good then just wait until you try the Croque Monsieur for lunch! This typical French lunch is basically a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with a fancy name, but the French do make it so much better. Try it with an egg over the top, poached or fried, and its name changes to a Croque Madame.

Escargot

You’ve probably heard stories about the French eating snails and it’s true – they do! Escargot is a meal you have to try – tender snails in a delicious garlic, butter and parsley sauce. You can’t leave the city without at least trying some snails and you’ll be surprised by how good they actually are. If you really don’t like it, then at least you can enjoy the sauce with some bread!

Brandade de Morue

This is common Parisian dish and is essentially a mixed fish cream, usually served with potatoes or chips. The fish used is cod and it is mashed with garlic, herbs and just enough olive oil until it becomes the delicious cream that you’ll find on your plate!

Cheese

The French certainly know what makes a good cheese and that is why you’ll find hundreds across the country. Only the best tend to make it to Paris so pay a visit to a fromagerie and select a few to take back with you to try later. If staying in a self-catering apartment you’ll have the absolute freedom to bring your cheese home and enjoy it later with a bottle of wine after a long day of sightseeing or museum visits. All-Paris-Apartments.com have a selection of apartments almost as good as the selection of cheese in the city, so you’ll be sure to find a tope place to stay with them!
