Four perfect African Honeymoon Locations
When choosing a honeymoon destination, couples often opt for something totally out of the ordinary – something truly memorable and special to begin married life. It’s no wonder then that Africa – with its dramatic wildlife, breathtaking scenery and fascinating culture – is such a popular choice. But with so many options across this vast continent, how do you choose the best? Here are four of the top honeymoon destinations, as selected by Africa experts Safari Consultants:
For secluded, unspoilt beaches and amazing diving, Mozambique is virtually unequalled. This East African haven does elegant luxury beautifully. Go snorkeling or scuba diving in the coral reefs, where water temperature remains around 28 degrees all year round. You might even get the chance to see a humpback whale during their migration – June to November.
The Masai Mara
For a safari honeymoon, it’s hard to go wrong with Kenya’s Masai Mara. Lion, wildebeest, zebra and gazelle among multitudes of other animals are part of the ecosystem here, the region that gave inspiration to the landscapes in The Lion King. All kinds of accommodation are available, from adventurous fly-camping to more comfortable safari lodges, so couples can tailor their holiday to their preferences. A must for nature-lovers.
The South African city is well known for its gourmet food: the city’s restaurants celebrate the rich cultural heritage of South Africa. Wine lovers will also enjoy the variety of local wines on offer to complement the food offerings. There is plenty of adventure activity on offer, too – paragliding, mountain-biking, canoeing and rock-climbing are all available for the outdoorsy couple.
This archipelago off Tanzania is a true cultural melting pot. With influences from Moorish, Middle Eastern, African and Indian traditions, the architecture, food, produce and culture is truly fascinating. With stunning beaches and brilliant opportunities for shopping, diving or simply relaxing under a beach umbrella, Zanzibar is a unique honeymoon destination.
With a whole world of choices, it’s hard to decide exactly where to select for a honeymoon – after all, there’s a lot of expectation that it will be perfect. However, with the range of accommodation, high-quality service, amazing food, beautiful scenery and number of activities available in Africa, it’s hard to go wrong when choosing it as a honeymoon destination.
